Conference Description

The Gordon Research Conference "Solid-State Studies in Ceramics" has covered a broad range of topics over the past twenty years. Basic and applied scientific issues are both addressed at a state-of-the art level. Basic issues that are consistently addressed include interface structure, properties, and characterization methods; phase transformations and microstructure development; innovative processing; deformation in both the brittle and ductile fields; and modeling of basic phenomenon at all scales. Applied topics include ceramics in a wide range of energy applications; composite and monolithic structural ceramics; electronic ceramics such as dielectrics, piezoelectrics, and superconductors; and coatings and thin films for various applications. Some conferences focus on a topical area and others do not. The conference has always featured vigorous audience participation during the discussion period. Attendees include representatives from academia, government and industry. Strong graduate student participation has been the norm, particularly in a poster session that runs throughout the meeting.

What is a GRC? Gordon Research Conferences (GRC) are 5-day meetings that bring scientists together from around the world to present and discuss unpublished research with other leaders in their field.
