Conference Description

The Gordon Conference on Research at High Pressure, which began in 1955, is one of the longest running Gordon Conferences. This is due to the exciting and diverse nature of this area of research which spans areas from deep-earth geophysics and geochemistry, multi-mega-bar shock and static techniques, dense fluids and disordered solids, and novel high-pressure material structure and properties measurements and predictions. Chemistry, together with novel synthesis and the structural prediction methods for new and unique materials such as ultra-hard solids and potential high temperature superconductors, has yielded dramatic advances using pressure as a tool. All of these areas rely upon coordinated theoretical and experimental efforts which are highlighted in this conference. Formal presentations by leading researchers and discussions provide a strong backbone for the conference, plus the poster session that has historically been the venue for a more free wheeling exchange of information. Participation of graduate students, postdocs, and early career faculty is strongly encouraged and is highlighted in a Young Investigators session.

What is a GRC? Gordon Research Conferences (GRC) are 5-day meetings that bring scientists together from around the world to present and discuss unpublished research with other leaders in their field.

Related Conference

This Gordon Research Conference (GRC) series is related to the "High Pressure, Research at" Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) series. Although a related GRS will typically be scheduled in conjunction with its parent GRC each time it meets, that may not always be the case. Refer to the individual meetings in the Meeting History section below for more details. For more information about the associated Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) series, click here.

What is a GRS? Gordon Research Seminars (GRS) are 2-day meetings that bring graduate students and post-docs together to discuss their cutting edge research among peers and mentors. Each GRS immediately precedes an associated Gordon Research Conference (GRC), and topics addressed at the GRS relate closely to the GRC.
