Meeting Description

The 2018 Gordon Research Conference on Environmental Sciences: Water will feature a program of leading researchers whose work strives to improve aquatic resources and protect public health. Many of the challenges in the environmental aquatic sciences rely on the ability to work at the intersections of traditional disciplines, especially as we strive to enrich our understanding of fundamental processes and develop solutions to meet these challenges. For example, the production of food, energy, and material resources for the modern world requires new developments in separation technologies, water treatment, and systems engineering to meet the demand. The protection of water resources, particularly in areas vulnerable to global change, requires an understanding of chemical and biological phenomena across broad scales. Exposures to hazardous chemicals require knowledge of human-environment interactions, and recent developments in new materials and technologies could lead to opportunities to reduce exposures and remediate contaminated settings. The 2018 Environmental Science: Water GRC will feature a program of thought-provoking research in the areas of sustainable water and material resources, chemical exposures and health outcomes, and new technologies for water.

Related Meeting

This GRC will be held in conjunction with the "Environmental Sciences: Water" Gordon Research Seminar (GRS). Those interested in attending both meetings must submit an application for the GRS in addition to an application for the GRC. Refer to the associated GRS program page for more information.
