Granular Matter (GRS)
Gordon Research Seminar

Particulate Systems in Science and Technology

July 23-24, 2016

Stonehill College
Easton, MA

Kirsten Harth & Carlos F. Orellana

Meeting Description

Granular materials accompany our lives in both natural and technical environments, from micron-scale particles to huge asteroids, including all states between dry grains and materials completely submerged in fluids. It unites researchers from theoretical and experimental physics, engineering, geoscience, astronomy and mathematics. This Gordon Research Seminar intends to reflect the latest developments in the field, and is an unique opportunity for graduate students, postdocs, and junior scientists to exchange their cutting edge research in an inviting and informal environment. It offers an outstanding platform to build new professional relationships, exchange knowledge on new methods, and to become acquainted with the interactive and productive atmosphere of a Gordon Conference. Oral contributions will be selected from the submitted abstracts.

The seminar will begin with a scientific kick-off talk by Dr. Joshua Dijksman from Wageningen UR. Prof. Heinrich Jaeger will reveal insights and his experience in how you can make your next talk a great event. We will conclude with a general panel discussion with distinguished experts from the field: "Quo vadis - granular matter?". Poster sessions on Saturday and Sunday will provide the attendees with an informal opportunity to present their latest results to their peers. Several oral contributions will be selected from the submitted abstracts.
