Conference Description

The conference objective is to examine the ability of models and simulations, at a variety of structural scales, to predict material performance. Particular emphasis will be placed on the connections needed to link processing with microstructural evolution and its effects on properties. Fundamental issues on both solidification/casting as well as solid state processing will be covered. The approach will be to bring together investigators from a broad range of backgrounds that develop or use models and simulations. Key speakers will also review the status of the field in the area of model verification and validation testing. Included will be physical and mechanical metallurgists, materials scientists, theoreticians and experimentalists, mechanicians, as well as alloy and process designers. The focused intent of the conference is that discussions will lead to a cross fertilization of ideas that will inspire the discovery of new phenomena, the development of innovative methods to solve existing problems, and foster collaborative interactions between attendees representing researchers from academic, industrial, and government laboratories.
