Travel Visas

Attention: Advance travel planning and early visa application are strongly encouraged for non-US citizens traveling to the United States. Visit the US Department of State: Bureau of Consular Affairs web site for more information regarding the procedure for obtaining a visa or information regarding the ESTA application.

Note: Citizens of a Visa Waiver Program country travelling to the USA must now possess a machine readable passport and an ESTA approval card. ESTA applications may be submitted any time prior to travel and generally remain valid for two years.

Driving Directions

Salve Regina University is located about 80 miles south of Boston and is situated on the southeastern end of Aquidneck Island in the city of Newport.

From Boston: Take Rte. 93 South to Rte. 128 North. Follow Rte 128 to Rte. 24 South to Fall River, MA, and follow the signs to Newport, RI.

From New York: Take I-95 to RI Exit 3 (Rte. 138) and follow signs to Newport Bridge.

From Upstate New York / Western Massachusetts: Take Mass Pike to exit 10A. Take Rte. 146. Merge onto I-295 South towards Warwick. I-295 becomes I-95 South. Move to the left-hand lanes to take Exit 9 which is RI-4 South towards North Kingstown. Follow Route 4 until you pass through two sets of lights, after which Route 4 merges into Route 1. Soon, there will be an exit for Route 138 East. Take this exit and keep following Route 138. You will cross the Jamestown Bridge and then finally come to the Newport Bridge. There is a $4.00 toll for cars.

From T.F. Green (PVD Airport) in Rhode Island: Leaving the airport, follow signs to Interstate 95 South. Follow 95 South to exit 9 (left-hand side exit). Exit 9 is actually a split of 95 onto Route 4. Follow Route 4 until you pass through two sets of lights, after which Route 4 merges into Route 1. Soon, there will be an exit for Route 138 East. Take this exit and keep following it. You will cross the Jamestown Bridge and then finally come to the Newport Bridge. There is a $4.00 toll for cars.

From the Newport Bridge: Take the first exit, Scenic Route. At the second light, bear right. At the seventh set of lights be in the left hand lane and go straight up the hill: this is Memorial Boulevard. Coming up Memorial at the second set of lights take a right onto Bellevue Ave (there will be signs for Salve Regina University directing you down Bellevue). At the next set of lights, take a left onto Narragansett Ave. At the second stop sign, take a right onto Ochre Point Ave. O'Hare Academic Center will be on the left-hand side, across from the library right before the second stop sign.

From Route 138 (South): Take Rte 138A off Rte. 138. It will be a left at a blinker just beyond a traffic light. Go by First Beach up Memorial Boulevard. Go past the beaches and up the hill (this is Memorial Blvd). At the next major set of lights, there will be signs to take a left for Salve Regina University (onto Bellevue Ave.) At the next set up lights, take a left onto Narragansett Ave. At the second stop sign, take a right onto Ochre Point Ave. O'Hare Academic Center will be on the left-hand side, across from the library right before the second stop sign.

Public and Private Transportation

  • Amtrak (Phone: 800-872-7245)
    Amtrak provides service from the Boston South Station to Providence, RI as well as Kingston, RI. You can reach Bryant University by taking the train to Providence Train Station and then taking a taxi to the site (approximately 12 miles). You can reach Salve Regina University by taking the train to Kingston, RI and then taking a taxi to the site (approximately 20 miles). Please check their web site for more information.
  • Greyhound Bus (RI) (Phone: 800-231-2222)
    Greyhound Bus provides bus service throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Conferees flying to Boston’s Logan International Airport should take a bus from South Station in Boston, MA to Kennedy Plaza in Providence, RI and then board another bus from Providence to Newport, RI. Additional taxi service is required from the Newport station to Salve Regina University. Schedules and fares are available on Greyhound’s web site or by phone.
  • Peter Pan Bus Lines (RI) (Phone: 401-751-8800)
    Peter Pan Bus Lines provides regular bus service from Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts to Providence and Newport in Rhode Island. Additional taxi service is required from the bus station to the conference site. Schedules and fares are available on Peter Pan’s web site or by phone.
  • Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) (Phone: 401-781-9400)
    RIPTA provides inexpensive public transit service throughout the state of Rhode Island. Schedules and fares are available at RIPTA’s web site or by phone.
  • Sentinel Limousine and Coach (Phone: 866-925-5466)
    Sentinel Limousine and Coach provides luxury black car and limousine service to and from T.F. Green Airport and Logan International Airport. Visit their web site or call for pricing.
  • Transportation Network (Phone: 866-988-0009 | Fax: 978-988-1350)
    Transportation Network Professional Livery Services provides luxury sedan, SUV and van transportation to and from Logan International Airport, T.F. Green Airport and Manchester Airport. Visit their web site or call for more detailed information.

Airlines and Airports

  • Logan Airport (BOS)
    Logan Airport is located in Boston, Massachusetts. Most major domestic and international airlines fly to BOS. Visit the Airport’s web site for a complete list of airlines. GRC provides a Chartered Bus service to our New England sites for conferees arriving here on Sundays (reservations are required).
  • T.F. Green Airport (PVD)
    T.F. Green Airport, located in Warwick, Rhode Island, is the preferred airport for domestic flights for conferences at Salve Regina University and Bryant University. Many major airlines (including American, Continental, Delta, Northwest, Southwest, United, and USAir) fly to PVD. Visit the airport’s web site for a complete list of airlines. T.F. Green is not an international airport. GRC provides transportation from this airport to its Rhode Island sites for conferees arriving here on Sundays (reservations are required).

    The Courtyard Newport Middletown by Marriott offers special pricing for GRC guests in 2016: $139 for weekdays, or $199 for weekends. These rates are discounted significantly off the regular rates, which range from $199-$289 during the summer season. It is convenient to Providence Airport (PVD) and is only minutes from historic downtown Newport.
