Conference Description
The Alcohol and the Nervous System GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes a diverse range of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
In this 7th meeting of Alcohol and the Nervous System Gordon Research Conference, the program will include presentations across early stage and established alcohol researchers studying molecular, cellular, circuit, and behavioral mechanisms controlling alcohol-related effects. The focus will be on such effects underlying acute and excessive alcohol drinking, tolerance, as well as executive function and affective domains surrounding alcohol-related behaviors. The participants will emphasize cutting-edge and unpublished basic science findings across multiple models and systems for the study of alcohol. The Chairs will provide a forum that explores neural mechanisms of alcohol actions in the brain and will highlight emerging scholars in the alcohol neuroscience field. In addition, the program is designed to foster a discussion environment that aims to integrate and debate presented data with prior findings in alcohol and neuroscience fields. The program will include a Power Hour session where issues related to career development will be discussed as well as poster sessions to foster scientific discussions and promote new collaborations across laboratories. The Chairs will add presentations to the program from early stage investigators on “hot topics” in the alcohol field.
The conference will consist of nine sessions, on the topics listed below. The conference chair is currently developing their preliminary program, which will include the names of the invited speakers and discussion leaders for each of these sessions. The preliminary program will be available by May 28, 2025. Please check back for updates.
