The Atmospheric Chemistry GRS provides a unique forum for young doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to present their work, discuss new methods, cutting edge ideas, and pre-published data, as well as to build collaborative relationships with their peers. Experienced mentors and trainee moderators will facilitate active participation in scientific discussion to allow all attendees to be engaged participants rather than spectators.
The first annual Atmospheric Chemistry Gordon Research Symposium (GRS) will be held from August 2–3, 2025, in Newry, ME. GRS is organized in conjunction with the Gordon Research Conference (GRC) on Atmospheric Chemistry. Participants will attend both GRS and the GRC on Atmospheric Chemistry at the Grand Summit Hotel Sunday River, the latter of which will take place from August 3 to August 8, 2025.
The GRS will include talks, posters, discussions, and a mentorship panel. We encourage submissions on broad, emerging themes in atmospheric chemistry, including advancements in next-generation observing systems, modeling, laboratory experiments, instrumentation, field campaigns, and combinations thereof.
In the “Scientific Activities” section of your application, please mention your current title (grad student, postdoc, etc.) and note how many years you’ve held that role. Please also include: 1) a list of abbreviated citations to the publications you have first authored, 2) a list of your presentations at major meetings, and 3) links to your Google Scholar profile or personal website that contain additional information about your research accomplishments. These details will help us better understand your contributions to the field and ensure a diverse and balanced group of participants.
There are no nationality restrictions for participation. Priority will be given to late-stage graduate students (within 1-2 years of PhD defense), postdocs, and other early-career scientists. Interested individuals must submit separate applications for both the GRS and GRC, but those selected for participation in the GRS will be accepted automatically to the GRC. Graduate students and postdocs with less than 3 years of postdoctoral experience are not likely to be accepted to attend GRC unless they are part of the accepted GRS group.
Application Instructions
The seminar will feature approximately 10 talks and 2 poster sessions. All attendees are expected to actively participate in the GRS, either by giving an oral presentation or presenting a poster. Therefore, all applications must include an abstract.
The seminar chair will select speakers from abstracts submitted by April 27, 2025. Those applicants who are not chosen for talks and those who apply after the deadline to be considered for an oral presentation will be expected to present a poster. In order to participate, you must submit an application by the date indicated in the Application Information section above.
Program Format
Gordon Research Seminars are 2-day meetings which take place on the Saturday and Sunday just prior to the start of the associated GRC. The GRS opens with a 1-hour introductory session on Saturday afternoon, followed by a poster session, dinner and a 2-hour session in the evening. Sunday morning begins with breakfast and is followed by another 2-hour session, a second poster session, and lunch. A final 1-hour session takes place just after lunch, and the associated GRC begins later that evening.
