The Cell Biology of the Neuron GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes a diverse range of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
The 2026 Gordon Research Conference on Cell Biology of the Neuron will be held in Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco, Italy during the week of June 7 - 12, 2026. The meeting will focus on the latest developments in fundamental neuronal cell biology, emphasizing the structural organization of axons, dendrites, and synapses, as well as the mechanisms that regulate neuronal morphology, function, and homeostasis in both physiological and pathological contexts, including neuronal injury. Neuron-glia interactions and communication will be integral to various sections of the program, which will make the meeting highly interactive and inspiring for junior scientists. This program addresses timely and critical topics essential for understanding the mechanisms behind nervous system development, function, and plasticity at the cellular level, utilizing cutting-edge technologies that are at the forefront of the field. The meeting will be highly interdisciplinary, uniting scientists employing different methodologies to tackle fundamental unresolved questions regarding neuronal cell function - questions crucial for elucidating neuronal pathologies at a mechanistic level and for providing new insights for their treatment.
The GRC Cell Biology of the Neuron continues to be a vital platform for gathering transformative scientists focused on unique aspects of neuronal function and homeostasis. We aim to attract neuroscientists interested in synaptic architecture and connectivity, cytoskeletal dynamics, organelle and RNA trafficking, neuronal polarity and regeneration, as well as those applying AI and computational approaches to neuronal cell biology. To showcase the latest and most exciting results, selected poster presenters will be invited to deliver short talks within the main program.
The new venue of this conference enhances informal interactions and foster information exchange. The Renaissance Tuscany Il Ciocco, which is located in the proximity of Pisa and Florence in Northern Italy, will accommodate all participants on-site in a lovely setting where participants will spend free time together overlooking the amazing landscape of the Apuan Alps. The organizers will strive for strong participation by younger scientists (students, postdocs, new faculty) and underrepresented minorities and women in presentations and discussions.
