Conference Description
The Glycolipid and Sphingolipid Biology GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes a diverse range of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
The upcoming 2026 Glycolipid and Sphingolipid Biology GRC promises to be an exciting and impactful event, building on the tradition of fostering deep scientific exchange and collaboration. In 2026, the conference will focus on the latest advances in the basic science of glyco- and sphingolipids, particularly in biophysics, biochemistry, and cell and molecular biology. A central theme of this meeting will be the pivotal role of glycosphingolipids in cancer immunity, host-pathogen interactions, and development, with a special emphasis on how these molecules serve as determinants of cell identity. Key topics will include the mechanistic aspects of glyco- and sphingolipids in membrane structure, signal transduction, immune responses, and recognition of exogenous agents. Novel strategies and cutting-edge tools to explore these molecular processes, as well as their potential as clinical approaches for treating glyco- and sphingolipid-related diseases, will also be highlighted. This GRC will continue its tradition of encouraging active discussions after talks and promoting informal interactions, fostering a collaborative environment that spans across all career stages. With premier speakers, poster sessions, and ample time for networking, the 2026 meeting will serve as a vital forum for shaping the future of glycolipid and sphingolipid biology community.
The conference will consist of nine sessions, on the topics listed below. The conference chair is currently developing their preliminary program, which will include the names of the invited speakers and discussion leaders for each of these sessions. The preliminary program will be available by June 25, 2025. Please check back for updates.
