Conference Description
The Image Science GRC is a premier, international scientific conference focused on advancing the frontiers of science through the presentation of cutting-edge and unpublished research, prioritizing time for discussion after each talk and fostering informal interactions among scientists of all career stages. The conference program includes a diverse range of speakers and discussion leaders from institutions and organizations worldwide, concentrating on the latest developments in the field. The conference is five days long and held in a remote location to increase the sense of camaraderie and create scientific communities, with lasting collaborations and friendships. In addition to premier talks, the conference has designated time for poster sessions from individuals of all career stages, and afternoon free time and communal meals allow for informal networking opportunities with leaders in the field.
Image science focuses on developing innovative strategies to acquire images and extract information with the highest possible accuracy and resolution. Traditionally rooted in optical imaging, the conference also explores common concepts in other modalities such as acoustics, MRI, X-ray, and microwave imaging. In challenging imaging scenarios, ranging from complex biological samples to astronomy, obtaining an image is not straightforward. It requires advanced physical concepts to design optimal imaging systems and measurement strategies. Additionally, leveraging novel technological developments in instrumentation, particularly in modulators and detectors, is crucial. Computational tools, from signal processing to modern machine learning techniques, enhance and accelerate imaging, even enabling it in scenarios previously deemed impossible. The ongoing AI revolution offers new ways to interpret data from imaging systems but also presents its own set of challenges and pitfalls. A key aspect is therefore to achieve the best quantitative accuracy while enhancing the task-based performance.
The 2026 Gordon Research Conference on “Image Science” will convene leading experts from academia and industry to share their perspectives on these overarching problems.
The conference will consist of nine sessions, on the topics listed below. The conference chair is currently developing their preliminary program, which will include the names of the invited speakers and discussion leaders for each of these sessions. The preliminary program will be available by July 30, 2025. Please check back for updates.
