The Liquid Phase Electron Microscopy GRS provides a unique forum for young doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to present their work, discuss new methods, cutting edge ideas, and pre-published data, as well as to build collaborative relationships with their peers. Experienced mentors and trainee moderators will facilitate active participation in scientific discussion to allow all attendees to be engaged participants rather than spectators.
This new edition of the Gordon Research Seminar Liquid Phase Electron Microscopy (GRS LPEM) enables young researchers to share their most recent thoughts, observations, and results on correlating the revealing results from LPEM with observations made on more traditional setups, garnering a multiscale understanding. Contributions are welcome from early career researchers, from doctoral candidates to more experienced postdoctoral researchers. The unique format will foster fruitful discussions, ideas for different research directions, and new collaborations within a diverse pool of excellent scientists from the most influential groups as well as groups who are just starting to use this exciting technique. Presentations of unpublished work will be moderated by experienced mentors who will render an active participation in scientific discussions of all attendees possible. Besides a selected number of oral presentations chosen from submitted abstracts, the seminar includes a poster session giving everyone the chance to build collaborative relationships with their peers and deepen discussions that came up during the presentations.
We encourage attendees to submit abstracts involving LPEM imaging and analysis in materials science, nanomaterial synthesis and dynamics, soft matter, life sciences and biology, to radiation chemistry, analytical chemistry, data science, and operando electrochemistry with a special emphasis on correlative methods. For bridging the gap between LPEM model systems and application relevant, the key is to not only obtain statistically relevant and reproducible data from this very method, but also to compare results with complementary experiments. This will help us to unfurl the whole potential of LPEM on the one hand and on the other to lift the methods to a powerful standard of nanoscale characterization. The GRS LPEM will be divided into four sessions covering all aspects of multimodal approaches, biological processes, operando methods, and crystallization and synthesis. We are looking forward to the seminar being a huge success with contributions from motivated, passionate, and enthusiastic young researchers and we also animate everyone to apply for the consecutive Gordon Research Conference Liquid Phase Electron Microscopy (GRC LPEM).
Application Instructions
The seminar will feature approximately 10 talks and 2 poster sessions. All attendees are expected to actively participate in the GRS, either by giving an oral presentation or presenting a poster. Therefore, all applications must include an abstract.
The seminar chair will select speakers from abstracts submitted by October 19, 2025. Those applicants who are not chosen for talks and those who apply after the deadline to be considered for an oral presentation will be expected to present a poster. In order to participate, you must submit an application by the date indicated in the Application Information section above.
Program Format
Gordon Research Seminars are 2-day meetings which take place on the Saturday and Sunday just prior to the start of the associated GRC. The GRS opens with a 1-hour introductory session on Saturday afternoon, followed by a poster session, dinner and a 2-hour session in the evening. Sunday morning begins with breakfast and is followed by another 2-hour session, a second poster session, and lunch. A final 1-hour session takes place just after lunch, and the associated GRC begins later that evening.
