The Mitochondria in Health and Disease GRS provides a unique forum for young doctoral and post-doctoral researchers to present their work, discuss new methods, cutting edge ideas, and pre-published data, as well as to build collaborative relationships with their peers. Experienced mentors and trainee moderators will facilitate active participation in scientific discussion to allow all attendees to be engaged participants rather than spectators.
Our Gordon Research Conference series is an exciting event where well-established mitochondrial researchers have traditionally gathered to present state-of-the-art unpublished data for discussion, networking, and promotion. Now, for the first time, we will also hold a satellite event tailored to young scientists and organized by PhD candidates and postdocs to help bring together the next generation of researchers in our field.
In this forthcoming Gordon Research Seminar (GRS), we will delve deep into mitochondrial biology, focusing in novel methodologies and integrative approaches to unravel the intricate mechanisms governing mitochondrial function. Our discussions will center around recent advancements that have shed light on the molecular targets of mitochondrial uncouplers and protonophores, achieved through the synergy of fundamental mitochondrial biology techniques, including patch-clamp methodologies, in silico molecular docking, and high-throughput robot-assisted CRISPR screens coupled with live cell imaging. Moreover, we will explore the transformative impact of multi-omics strategies and novel mitochondrial genome-editing tools, such as mitoARCUS or mitoDdCBE, in revolutionizing our understanding of mitochondrial genetics and metabolism. As we navigate through these scientific frontiers, we will also address the expanding spectrum of biological processes governed by mitochondria, ranging from cellular metabolism and epigenetics to immune regulation and signaling, emphasizing the diverse effects of mitochondrial dysfunction on cell fate.
Please join us on March 22nd-23rd for the inaugural GRS Mitochondria in Health and Disease, held in Ventura, CA - USA. We will feature numerous talks and a poster session for all participants to present their findings, exchange ideas, and network with like-minded individuals. In addition, a mentoring session will take place to help those at all levels navigate their budding careers. Funding for travel and/or registration assistance may be available, contingent on the GRS budget, with priority given to those giving oral presentations.
We look forward to your application!
Application Instructions
The seminar will feature approximately 10 talks and 2 poster sessions. All attendees are expected to actively participate in the GRS, either by giving an oral presentation or presenting a poster. Therefore, all applications must include an abstract.
The seminar chair will select speakers from abstracts submitted by December 15, 2024. Those applicants who are not chosen for talks and those who apply after the deadline to be considered for an oral presentation will be expected to present a poster. In order to participate, you must submit an application by the date indicated in the Application Information section above.
Program Format
Gordon Research Seminars are 2-day meetings which take place on the Saturday and Sunday just prior to the start of the associated GRC. The GRS opens with a 1-hour introductory session on Saturday afternoon, followed by a poster session, dinner and a 2-hour session in the evening. Sunday morning begins with breakfast and is followed by another 2-hour session, a second poster session, and lunch. A final 1-hour session takes place just after lunch, and the associated GRC begins later that evening.
