Oxygen Radicals as Effectors of Redox Biology

The 2016 Oxygen Radicals Gordon Research Conference will present and discuss the most up-to-date research on oxygen radicals as effectors of redox biology. The program is designed to have broad appeal to all scientists and clinicians with an interest in oxygen radicals, encompassing several areas including mechanisms of action, roles in disease, new detection techniques, and emerging concepts related to cross-talk with other redox signaling effectors (e.g. H₂S, CO). Specific sessions will be Pathophysiologic roles of oxidized lipids, Sirtuins aging and redox, Emerging paradigms in redox signaling, New detection methods and probes, Oxygen radicals and mechanisms of disease, Infectious diseases and free radicals, Role for CO and H₂S in oxygen radicals biology. Cutting-edge presentations will be delivered by 32 speakers that represent current and future leaders in free radical biology and medicine, with an additional 7 slots to be filled from selected abstracts. The meeting will also begin and end with keynote lectures from Professors Gregg Semenza and Michael Murphy, pioneers in the areas of HIF-signaling and mitochondrial reactive species respectively. Two separate poster sessions are also scheduled and overall the conference is organized so that ample opportunities for discussion are provided, and importantly interactions between senior and junior scientists, and trainees is fostered in a collegial setting. Furthermore, and based on the success of the inaugural Oxygen radicals GRS that partnered with the 2014 Oxygen Radicals GRC meeting, we are pleased that the 2016 Oxygen Radicals GRC will be preceded by a 2-day GRS meeting that is organized and run solely by trainees (Divya Vasudevan (USA) and Daniel Ferguson (UK)) and anticipate that this will further enhance the quality of cutting-edge science presented and discussed at the meeting as well as providing unique networking and career development opportunities.
