Integrating Molecular Mechanisms, -Omics and Imaging to Develop Abiotic Stress Tolerant Crops

The Gordon Research Seminar on Salt and Water Stress in Plants is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting-edge ideas.

Research on salt and water stress in plants is an increasingly important topic of study considering global climate change as well as increasing world population. This GRS will have five sessions:

• Molecular mechanisms guiding salt and water stress tolerance
  Studies that pursue mechanistic understanding of gene functions, gene networks and their products under stress.
• Insights from system and comparative biology into salt and water stress tolerance
  Interdisciplinary studies that integrate big data analysis (e.g. genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics and metabolomics) from single or multiple species.
• Introduction of new tools and methods for data analysis and presentation
  Acquaintance of state-of-the-art platforms for data analyses (e.g. versatile R packages) and their dynamic presentation (e.g. data deposits, "Shiny" apps and Caleydo)
• Identification of novel phenotypic traits under salt and water stress
  Includes diverse phenotyping technologies (i.e. large scale, automated, manual, novel traits, etc.)
• Applications of fundamental research under field conditions
  Testing research hypothesis and validation of stress tolerance mechanisms using crops under field conditions.

We have limited funds available to support registration to the seminar/travel. Please send an email to Sandra and Lidor describing your research and arguing why financial support is needed (max 1 page) and a CV (max 2 pages). Decisions will be made in March 2018.
