Exploring the Dynamics of Emergent Behavior in the Solid State

The Gordon Research Seminar on Ultrafast Phenomena in Cooperative Systems is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.

This research seminar will focus on exploring time-dependent emergent phenomena in cooperative systems at the relevant fundamental timescales for nonequilibirum processes initiated by ultrafast electromagnetic excitations. We will focus on ultrafast methodologies spanning the THz, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, and x-ray regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. Topics included will encompass a wide range of physical phenomena including: ultrafast phase transitions, electronic and magnetic switching, dynamics in highly coupled nano- and microstructured systems, and manipulation of highly coupled elementary transitions of the electronic, vibrational, and spin degrees of freedom.
