Exploring Nonequilibrium Physics in Quantum Materials

The Gordon Research Seminar on Ultrafast Phenomena in Cooperative Systems is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas.

The focus of this meeting is to explore nonequilibrium physics in quantum materials. Ultrafast spectroscopic techniques provide means to control the degrees of freedom in cooperative systems, to monitor their dynamics, and to stabilize new phases on extremely short timescales. The methodologies span a wide range of pump-probe spectroscopic techniques using intense laser pulses from THz, infrared, visible, ultraviolet, and X-ray regions of the electromagnetic spectrum, as well as ultrafast electron diffraction and photoemission spectroscopy. Topics will depend on the range of submissions we receive, which may include but not limited to ultrafast dynamics in two-dimensional materials, topological materials, spin liquids, circuit quantum electrodynamics, and critical phenomena in metals, magnetism and superconductors.
